Today is St. Patrick's Day, traditionally the feast day for the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday is popular enough that it's celebrated worldwide by Irish and people who pretend to be Irish.
But did you know that Patrick was not Irish?
Patrick was a Roman from western Britian. His first trip to Ireland was when he was enslaved as a child. He escaped after several years and returned much later as a Christian missionary. It is of course in this later role that people remember him.
