So I have two alarm clocks, right? I have one of them set for 6:05 and the other for 6:12. When the first one goes off, I hit the snooze button and then they both go off at 6:12. And then I hit the snooze buttons again. And again.

Something was different this morning. I knew The Chicken doesn't have school, and I knew The Bunny is home (and awake) today. On days like that, I get an extra hour or so of sleep.

Did I remember that little detail even through my sleepy stupor? It must have been something like that because I hit those snooze buttons for a good solid hour before realizing it.

My first memory of this morning was waking to alarm #2 going off at 7:12. 7:12. That's not a typo. Both of my alarm clocks allow adjustment to only hours and minutes, so I've grown used to the fact that alarm #2 is about 15 seconds ahead of alarm #1. So when alarm #2 went off, I waited for alarm #1 to go off. It never did.

I got out of bed, hit the snooze on alarm #2 and crawled back into bed thinking, "Was I so out of it that I turned off alarm #1 without realizing it and repeatedly hit the snooze on alarm #2… in my sleep?"

Apparently I did. And apparently I was so out of it at that very moment that I'd also turned off alarm #2 without realizing it.

My second memory of this morning is Bunny waking me at 8:40. "Don't you have work today?"

Fuck. Work starts at 9:00.

I was in my office by 9:15, so that's not really a big deal. But I always feel that being late like this is a really bad omen for the rest of my day.
