Narrowly averted

Well, we really dodged a bullet Saturday night. The Chicken more or less caught The Bunny and me fucking. Not having sex, not making love. We were fucking. In the living room.

As we finished off, Bunny glanced over toward the kitchen and saw Chicken raiding the refrigerator. Apparently he bypassed the living room and went straight to the kitchen. For which I'm eternally thankful. Having my five year-old tap me on the shoulder mid-coitus would have ruined my evening in so many ways.

Once we saw that he was awake and downstairs we bundled up with blankets and went to see what he was doing. He was so out of sorts he might have been sleepwalking. I asked a bunch of questions like, "Are you thirsty?" and "What are you doing, buddy?" He didn't answer any of them. He just kind of stood there weaving a little with his eyes half open.

We got him back to bed and then Bunny and I talked about it for a bit. In the end we decided that seeing his parents in the midst of passion is better than seeing his parents in the midst of a fight. There are far worse things for a five year-old to see.

The next morning he had no memory of any of it. Given the path he took to the refrigerator, there's a fair chance he didn't see anything untoward anyway. So in the end everything worked out just fine.

Except for one thing. I can virtually guarantee that I will never again get laid in the living room.

Is it weird…

…that the cat will chew me out for staying up too late?

It is, isn't it?

Me: So I was talking to one of the kitties the other day-

The Bunny: hahahaha!

Me: Oh fuck you! I'm not even going to tell you now!

Bunny: hahaha! You were talking. To the kitties.

Me: I totally not going to tell you now.

Bunny: I am so blogging this.

Me: No you're not. I'm going to beat you to it. So there.

(I'm at work. I'm calling a guy about his computer.)

Guy's wife: Hello?

Me: Hi, is Jack in?

Guy's wife: Yes he is.

Me: May I talk with him please?

Guy's wife: Who's this?

Me: Fish from the computer repair shop.

Guy's wife: Who?

Me: Fish. From the computer repair shop.

Guy's wife: Oh, ok. Hi!

Me: Good afternoon.

Guy's wife: What did you want to talk with him about?

Me: Saving money on long distance with Sprint. What the hell do you think I want to talk with him about, dumbass?*

I know, I know. That sounds harsh. But this guy had just a few days ago had a different computer serviced for a different problem. I've talked to this woman this week. She knows her husband is having computers repaired. And she can't figure out why the guy from the computer shop might want to talk with him?

*I might have made this bit up, but believe me it's what I wanted to say.

Snowflake

Snowflake on my tongue-
for a moment I forget
about dirty clouds.

Notes on hosting your own blog, part 8

Apparently there is the possibility that WordPress will occasionally fall on its sword. My blog is broken and I have no idea why. My server is up, my database is working, other test installations I've installed are functioning normally.

Doesn't that just suck?

Please stand by while I engage in a little percussive maintenance.

Update: Not my fault, not WordPress' fault! I spent some time this morning beating on things in a semi-orderly sort of way and ran into some curious roadblocks. I opened a support ticket with my web host and was directed to an open thread on their support forums.

Apparently they upgraded 27 servers, including mine, with newer versions of PHP, MySQL and cPanel. And everything worked just great… until they all broke. So I'm sitting tight and watching the progress on the support thread.

Update #2:All better! The tech team at my web host put on their grass skirts and did the six nines dance and everything is up and running just as it should be.

Caption this!

Create-a-caption not-a-contest

I'm feeling…

…a little frisky today. So I've decided to take a suggestion and have a poll about the red background color. Cast your vote below.

I like the red.
I love the red.
I really love the red!
Whatever the cat says is fine with me.
