Comment Instant Messenger Links 1.2 - Have you noticed that WordPress user profile pages include fields for instant messenger ids? Have you also noticed that WordPress does absolutely nothing with this information? This plugin at last gives you and your registered users a reason to fill in those fields.
Comment Instant Messenger Links uses a template tag for the comment loop to retrieve a registered user's AIM, Yahoo! and Jabber/Google Talk ids and display click-to-message images using the aim:, ymsgr: and xmpp: pseudo-protocols. Those clickable images are only visible to other registered users.
Note that the xmpp link protocol is not universally supported. Most Jabber clients, such as Exodus and Gaim, support these links just fine but the popular Google Talk client does not. A similar method exists for GTalk (gtalk://user@gmail.com), but it doesn't work the way one might expect. Should Google ever implement proper support for either xmpp: or gtalk: I'll update the plugin accordingly, but for now click-to-message functionality is only for "standard" Jabber clients. Links for AIM and Yahoo! ids are unaffected by this and will function normally.
Also note that, unlike AIM and Yahoo!, Jabber ids require the user name and the server name, like user@public-jabber-server.com or user@gmail.com. Even if your users have a compliant Jabber client, your links won't work if you don't have your full id in your profile.
Below is a screen cap of how this plugin displays for me. Your display will vary depending on where you place the template tag and what styles you choose.

To do:

Add online status indicators.
-
Add support for the Jabber/Google Talk field. Maybe. -
Find a Jabber graphic that doesn't look so much like a yellow butt. -
Possibly add support for ICQ, MSN/Windows Live Messenger and Skype, which would also require inserting new fields into the profile page.
-
Possibly add support for multiple, user-selectable image sets.
